SCOPE AND MOTIVATION

With 5G networks rapidly rolling out, global research into technologies that will support emerging use cases for the next generation of mobile communications is already underway. 3GPP recently committed to develop 6G specifications and now stand ready to embark on the planning for 6G. A joint session was scheduled during TSG#103 focusing on inter-TSG 6G timeline discussion, Studies for 6G in 3GPP are expected to start from Release 20 and SA1 SID is expected to be approved in Sept’2024.

This workshop is geared towards delving into the cutting-edge trends and foreseeable challenges in 6G standards. It offers an exclusive opportunity for various industries and researchers to exchange insights on future needs while pinpointing obstacles that may impede the advancement. The workshop also aims to spread awareness about 3GPP technology areas and timelines for upcoming releases. As we move into the 6G era, the workshop will be regarded as an initial stride towards embracing the 3GPP standard.
